Caelus

The Prince Who Fell

They've lived among us for generations. Most of them have forgotten what they are.

An ancient warrior species arrived on Earth when their planet was destroyed. They integrated. They had children with humans. Over decades, most of them forgot.

Their biology still tries to express itself. Vitiligo. Eczema. Conditions no doctor can explain.

Caelus Ignar knows exactly what he is.

The last full-blood male. Heir to a throne he wants nothing to do with. Survivor of a childhood spent in a military research facility.

He survived all of it. He negotiated his way out. He wanted one thing: to be left alone.

He almost managed it.

They were never myths. They were memories.

What He Carries

A man who has survived everything must learn, from scratch, what it means to stay.

Caelus Ignar has spent eleven years alone in the city, careful to stay unseen. Then a police detective — recently separated, three children, working a dangerous case with no backup — is handed his file, and he's asked to move into her spare bedroom.

He argues against it for twenty minutes. He loses.

The children have rules for him within a week. He has rules for them within a day. Nobody asked whether he was good at this. It turns out he might be.

But eleven years of staying invisible doesn't undo itself just because a nine-year-old wants help with a birthday cake — and the reason he's in that house at all hasn't gone away.

What he carries, he carries quietly.

Blue Fire

The Daughter's War

The difference between protecting someone and trusting them is the hardest lesson.

Lyra Ignar has always known what her father is. She has never known what she is — until the night her body answers a question she never got to ask, and a column of cold blue light goes up from the garden at midnight, visible for kilometers in every direction.

Every Draconari female on Earth sees it. A hundred and thirty-four people who've spent years not understanding their own bodies suddenly have a name for what's wrong with them, and a signal to follow.

Caelus knew what the beam would do. He didn't stop her. Now father and daughter have to figure out what it means that she did it anyway — deliberately, without asking him first.

The signal doesn't ask permission. Neither does she.

The Reckoning

The concealment ends. Everything built in the dark now stands in the light.

Eight thousand people fill a market square on the Morthkai's orders, made to lie down in the cold, watched by weapons no human army can answer. Caelus Ignar has spent his whole life avoiding exactly this moment.

He stands up anyway.

He says his name. His real one. Son of Ignar Draconus, Crown Prince of a species that came to Earth generations ago and was welcomed as family. Then he tells eight thousand witnesses, and seventeen alien ships, that this planet is not going to be taken.

What happens next has been building for eighteen years, whether he was ready for it or not.

Some things can only be carried in silence for so long.

Return to the Fire

The star is still there. That is enough.

The war is over. The city knows what it's sharing the world with now, and nothing about that is simple. Somewhere off the coast of Alexandria, sealed for seventeen hundred years, an archive is waiting for the one hand that can open it — built by a father for a son he only got to know for six years.

Caelus Ignar finally gets to meet his father the only way he still can: through two thousand years of history, and one man's private handwriting, addressed to a son he never watched grow up.

This is the last book. Not because the story runs out — because some things get to be finished.

He is still here. That is the star.
